Alaska: Joe Miller Making Gains In The Vote Count

From Cubachi and Vision to America:

Update: Joe Miller making gains in the vote count

The vote count is underway in Alaska. It started 2PM their time today, and republican candidate Joe Miller made gains. There are thousands of ballots still to go, and Miller garnered 914 votes.

Although that is a small number, the Miller camp feels it is indicative that the vote count, the majority of which (83,000) will be counted. Most of the ballots come via military and overseas ballots. Miller believes the military votes will push him over the top. Hopefully things will go his way.

The Alaska Dispatch revealed some of the rules of the vote count where a small group of “independents” according to Alaskan Lt. Governor Craig Campbell, will decipher which ballots will go under these five categories:

1. The confused votes: Ballots on which a candidate whose name is printed on the ballot has been written in.

2. The extremely confused votes: Ballots on which more than one oval is marked or a name is written in but no oval is marked.

3. The inarguable votes: Ballots on which the oval is marked for a write-in and “Lisa Murkowski” or “Murkowski” is written in exactly.

4. The votes to watch: Ballots on which the oval is marked for a write-in but the name written is a variation or misspelling of “Lisa Murkowski” or “Murkowski.”

5. The “Spider-Man” votes: Ballots on which the name written in is not “Lisa Murkowski” or a variation thereof.

UPDATE: You can follow the update tally of the votes here. As of 5pm: “Write-In” at 91,049 — Joe Miller at 79,492. Joe Miller is coming up!

Dan Riehl has news over at Big Government of AK Supervisers Union Cited For Improperly Campaigning Against Joe Miller.

You may remember from this hidden video footage that caught union supervisors campaigning for Lisa Murkowski.

Just breaking: Joe Miller is now asking a federal judge to keep the state from using discretion in counting write-in ballots.

And this, related, from Floyd Reports:

Exclusive: Voting Irregularities Reported in Alaska

Posted on November 10, 2010 by Ben Johnson by Ben Johnson

The U.S. Senate race in Nevada and the U.S. House race in South Dakota produced widespread allegations of voting improprieties. Now the U.S. Senate race between Alaskan Republican Joe Miller and write-in candidate Lisa Murkowski has its first allegation of voting irregularities. A poll watcher in Fairbanks reports easy access to the ballots and equipment malfunctions that would shake one’s belief in the authenticity of the vote.

A notarized statement from a poll watcher obtained by this author states that at one polling place:

1. The ballot box itself was unsecured in that the electoral judges had access to the inside of the ballot box with a key.

2. The electoral judges opened the ballot box several times to clear jammed ballots and rearrange by hand the ballots in the box to make space for new ballots.

3. The ballot counter on the ballot box was inoperable from poll opening to 8:30 am. A voter at one point had asked how many people had voted, and the response from the judges was that it was not known due to the counter being inoperative.

4. There was only one ballot box at this precinct.

The inoperative vote counter made him question how ballot boxes are certified as empty when polls open, leaving the possibility one side had stuffed the ballot box before any votes had been cast.

The report concludes, “The experience leaves me wondering about the integrity of our state operation of polling places.”

It leaves us wondering, too.
