TSA security measures: worse than useless

From Jihad Watch;

TSA security measures: worse than useless

The whole TSA security apparatus exists because of Islamic jihad terrorists, and yet, as I have pointed out many times, it will never be adequate to stop those jihadists. The TSA is always prohibiting or restricting or searching things pertaining to the method of the previous jihad attack attempt -- shoes, liquids, etc. -- but they have no way to anticipate or head off the method of the next attack. And they waste huge amounts of time, money, and resources by pretending that everyone is an equal threat to launch a terror attack -- Baptist grandmothers in wheelchairs just as much as young Pakistani Muslim males.

The only answer at this point, and even it is not perfect, would be to institute Israeli-style profiling of air passengers. The Israelis have run an efficient and terror-attack-free air service for years, without all these invasive security measures.

But to emulate them, of course, would mean to recognize in an official way that Muslims are a greater risk to commit terror attacks than Methodists or Mennonites. And in today's politically correct environment, the Obama Administration and the TSA would rather see another jihad mass-murder of American citizens on the scale of 9/11 or worse than do anything to suggest that.

"Smoke Screening," by Charles C. Mann in Vanity Fair, December 20:

Not until I walked with Bruce Schneier toward the mass of people unloading their laptops did it occur to me that it might not be possible for us to hang around unnoticed near Reagan National Airport’s security line. Much as upscale restaurants hang mug shots of local food writers in their kitchens, I realized, the Transportation Security Administration might post photographs of Schneier, a 48-year-old cryptographer and security technologist who is probably its most relentless critic. In addition to writing books and articles, Schneier has a popular blog; a recent search for “TSA” in its archives elicited about 2,000 results, the vast majority of which refer to some aspect of the agency that he finds to be ineffective, invasive, incompetent, inexcusably costly, or all four.

As we came by the checkpoint line, Schneier described one of these aspects: the ease with which people can pass through airport security with fake boarding passes. First, scan an old boarding pass, he said—more loudly than necessary, it seemed to me. Alter it with Photoshop, then print the result with a laser printer. In his hand was an example, complete with the little squiggle the T.S.A. agent had drawn on it to indicate that it had been checked. “Feeling safer?” he asked....

Bruce Schneier’s exasperation is informed by his job-related need to spend a lot of time in Airportland. He has 10 million frequent-flier miles and takes about 170 flights a year; his average speed, he has calculated, is 32 miles and hour. “The only useful airport security measures since 9/11,” he says, “were locking and reinforcing the cockpit doors, so terrorists can’t break in, positive baggage matching”—ensuring that people can’t put luggage on planes, and then not board them —“and teaching the passengers to fight back. The rest is security theater.”

Remember the fake boarding pass that was in Schneier’s hand? Actually, it was mine. I had flown to meet Schneier at Reagan National Airport because I wanted to view the security there through his eyes. He landed on a Delta flight in the next terminal over. To reach him, I would have to pass through security. The day before, I had downloaded an image of a boarding pass from the Delta Web site, copied and pasted the letters with Photoshop, and printed the results with a laser printer. I am not a photo-doctoring expert, so the work took me nearly an hour. The T.S.A. agent waved me through without a word. A few minutes later, Schneier deplaned, compact and lithe, in a purple shirt and with a floppy cap drooping over a graying ponytail.

The boarding-pass problem is hardly the only problem with the checkpoints. Taking off your shoes is next to useless. “It’s like saying, Last time the terrorists wore red shirts, so now we’re going to ban red shirts,” Schneier says. If the T.S.A. focuses on shoes, terrorists will put their explosives elsewhere. “Focusing on specific threats like shoe bombs or snow-globe bombs simply induces the bad guys to do something else. You end up spending a lot on the screening and you haven’t reduced the total threat.”

As I waited at security with my fake boarding pass, a T.S.A. agent had darted out and swabbed my hands with a damp, chemically impregnated cloth: a test for explosives. Schneier said, “Apparently the idea is that al-Qaeda has never heard of latex gloves and wiping down with alcohol.” The uselessness of the swab, in his view, exemplifies why Americans should dismiss the T.S.A.’s frequent claim that it relies on “multiple levels” of security. For the extra levels of protection to be useful, each would have to test some factor that is independent of the others. But anyone with the intelligence and savvy to use a laser printer to forge a boarding pass can also pick up a stash of latex gloves to wear while making a bomb. From the standpoint of security, Schneier said, examining boarding passes and swabbing hands are tantamount to performing the same test twice because the person you miss with one test is the same person you'll miss with the other.

After a public outcry, T.S.A. officers began waving through medical supplies that happen to be liquid, including bottles of saline solution. “You fill one of them up with liquid explosive,” Schneier said, “then get a shrink-wrap gun and seal it. The T.S.A. doesn’t open shrink-wrapped packages.” I asked Schneier if he thought terrorists would in fact try this approach. Not really, he said. Quite likely, they wouldn’t go through the checkpoint at all. The security bottlenecks are regularly bypassed by large numbers of people—airport workers, concession-stand employees, airline personnel, and T.S.A. agents themselves (though in 2008 the T.S.A. launched an employee-screening pilot study at seven airports). “Almost all of those jobs are crappy, low-paid jobs,” Schneier says. “They have high turnover. If you’re a serious plotter, don’t you think you could get one of those jobs?”...

"Too Crazy To Believe"

From Atlas Shrugged:

"Too Crazy To Believe"

Of course, under the Obama administration of destruction, nothing is too crazy to believe. This is the poisonous fruit of leftist economic policy. It's not just Obama who has to got to be kicked out; it's all of the moochers, looters, and destroyers.

"There is only one standard of justice in the field of economics: the verdict of a free market." Ayn Rand

We need to get our ideas out into the national dialogue, which is being strangled by the uber-left chokehold on media, academia and culture. We have our work cut out for us. Expose the bastards!

50 Economic Numbers About The US That Are "Almost Too Crazy To Believe" Tyler Durden Hat tip Katherine

The Economic Collapse Blog does a terrific job of periodically putting together a compilation of the scariest data points about the US economy. Today is one such day, and the list of 50 economic numbers presented is indeed, as the author puts it, "almost too crazy to believe"... Almost. As noted: "At this time of the year, a lot of families get together, and in most homes the conversation usually gets around to politics at some point. Hopefully many of you will use the list below as a tool to help you share the reality of the U.S. economic crisis with your family and friends. If we all work together, hopefully we can get millions of people to wake up and realize that "business as usual" will result in a national economic apocalypse." Or, far more likely, 99% of the population can continue watching Dancing with the Stars, as what little wealth remains is terminally transferred to those who are paying attention right below everyone's eyes.

From the Economic Collapse Blog:

The following are 50 economic numbers from 2011 that are almost too crazy to believe....

#1 A staggering 48 percent of all Americans are either considered to be "low income" or are living in poverty.

#2 Approximately 57 percent of all children in the United States are living in homes that are either considered to be "low income" or impoverished.

#3 If the number of Americans that "wanted jobs" was the same today as it was back in 2007, the "official" unemployment rate put out by the U.S. government would be up to 11 percent.

#4 The average amount of time that a worker stays unemployed in the United States is now over 40 weeks.

#5 One recent survey found that 77 percent of all U.S. small businesses do not plan to hire any more workers.

#6 There are fewer payroll jobs in the United States today than there were back in 2000 even though we have added 30 million extra people to the population since then.

#7 Since December 2007, median household income in the United States has declined by a total of 6.8% once you account for inflation.

#8 According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 16.6 million Americans were self-employed back in December 2006. Today, that number has shrunk to 14.5 million.

#9 A Gallup poll from earlier this year found that approximately one out of every five Americans that do have a job consider themselves to be underemployed.

#10 According to author Paul Osterman, about 20 percent of all U.S. adults are currently working jobs that pay poverty-level wages.

#11 Back in 1980, less than 30% of all jobs in the United States were low income jobs. Today, more than 40% of all jobs in the United States are low income jobs.

#12 Back in 1969, 95 percent of all men between the ages of 25 and 54 had a job. In July, only 81.2 percent of men in that age group had a job.

#13 One recent survey found that one out of every three Americans would not be able to make a mortgage or rent payment next month if they suddenly lost their current job.

#14 The Federal Reserve recently announced that the total net worth of U.S. households declined by 4.1 percent in the 3rd quarter of 2011 alone.

#15 According to a recent study conducted by the BlackRock Investment Institute, the ratio of household debt to personal income in the United States is now 154 percent.

#16 As the economy has slowed down, so has the number of marriages. According to a Pew Research Center analysis, only 51 percent of all Americans that are at least 18 years old are currently married. Back in 1960, 72 percent of all U.S. adults were married.

#17 The U.S. Postal Service has lost more than 5 billion dollars over the past year.

#18 In Stockton, California home prices have declined 64 percent from where they were at when the housing market peaked.

#19 Nevada has had the highest foreclosure rate in the nation for 59 months in a row.

#20 If you can believe it, the median price of a home in Detroit is now just $6000.

#21 According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 18 percent of all homes in the state of Florida are sitting vacant. That figure is 63 percent larger than it was just ten years ago.

#22 New home construction in the United States is on pace to set a brand new all-time record low in 2011.

#23 As I have written about previously, 19 percent of all American men between the ages of 25 and 34 are now living with their parents.

#24 Electricity bills in the United States have risen faster than the overall rate of inflation for five years in a row.

#25 According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, health care costs accounted for just 9.5% of all personal consumption back in 1980. Today they account for approximately 16.3%.

#26 One study found that approximately 41 percent of all working age Americans either have medical bill problems or are currently paying off medical debt.

#27 If you can believe it, one out of every seven Americans has at least 10 credit cards.

#28 The United States spends about 4 dollars on goods and services from China for every one dollar that China spends on goods and services from the United States.

#29 It is being projected that the U.S. trade deficit for 2011 will be 558.2 billion dollars.

#30 The retirement crisis in the United States just continues to get worse. According to the Employee Benefit Research Institute, 46 percent of all American workers have less than $10,000 saved for retirement, and 29 percent of all American workers have less than $1,000 saved for retirement.

#31 Today, one out of every six elderly Americans lives below the federal poverty line.

#32 According to a study that was just released, CEO pay at America's biggest companies rose by 36.5% in just one recent 12 month period.

#33 Today, the "too big to fail" banks are larger than ever. The total assets of the six largest U.S. banks increased by 39 percent between September 30, 2006 and September 30, 2011.

#34 The six heirs of Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton have a net worth that is roughly equal to the bottom 30 percent of all Americans combined.

#35 According to an analysis of Census Bureau data done by the Pew Research Center, the median net worth for households led by someone 65 years of age or older is 47 times greater than the median net worth for households led by someone under the age of 35.

#36 If you can believe it, 37 percent of all U.S. households that are led by someone under the age of 35 have a net worth of zero or less than zero.

#37 A higher percentage of Americans is living in extreme poverty (6.7%) than has ever been measured before.

#38 Child homelessness in the United States is now 33 percent higher than it was back in 2007.

#39 Since 2007, the number of children living in poverty in the state of California has increased by 30 percent.

#40 Sadly, child poverty is absolutely exploding all over America. According to the National Center for Children in Poverty, 36.4% of all children that live in Philadelphia are living in poverty, 40.1% of all children that live in Atlanta are living in poverty, 52.6% of all children that live in Cleveland are living in poverty and 53.6% of all children that live in Detroit are living in poverty.

#41 Today, one out of every seven Americans is on food stamps and one out of every four American children is on food stamps.

#42 In 1980, government transfer payments accounted for just 11.7% of all income. Today, government transfer payments account for more than 18 percent of all income.

#43 A staggering 48.5% of all Americans live in a household that receives some form of government benefits. Back in 1983, that number was below 30 percent.

#44 Right now, spending by the federal government accounts for about 24 percent of GDP. Back in 2001, it accounted for just 18 percent.

#45 For fiscal year 2011, the U.S. federal government had a budget deficit of nearly 1.3 trillion dollars. That was the third year in a row that our budget deficit has topped one trillion dollars

#46 If Bill Gates gave every single penny of his fortune to the U.S. government, it would only cover the U.S. budget deficit for about 15 days.

#47 Amazingly, the U.S. government has now accumulated a total debt of 15 trillion dollars. When Barack Obama first took office the national debt was just 10.6 trillion dollars

#48 If the federal government began right at this moment to repay the U.S. national debt at a rate of one dollar per second, it would take over 440,000 years to pay off the national debt.

#49 The U.S. national debt has been increasing by an average of more than 4 billion dollars per day since the beginning of the Obama administration.

#50 During the Obama administration, the U.S. government has accumulated more debt than it did from the time that George Washington took office to the time that Bill Clinton took office.

GOP Bill Considers Drug Cartels ‘Terrorist Insurgency’

From Newsmax:

GOP Bill Considers Drug Cartels ‘Terrorist Insurgency’

House Republicans are sponsoring a bill that would acknowledge Mexican drug cartels as a threat to national security and treat them as terrorists.

GOP Rep. Connie Mack of Florida introduced H.R. 3401, the “Enhanced Border Security Act,” in order to “secure the U.S.-Mexico border, stop criminal access to U.S. financial institutions, and work with Mexico to implement counterinsurgency tactics to undermine the control of the drug cartels in the country,” according to CNS News.

The bill would also double the number of Border Patrol agents and call for the construction of “tactical double layered fencing” to help secure the border.

“A terrorist insurgency is being waged along our Southern border,” Mack said on Thursday as the bill came before the Western Hemisphere subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, where he serves as chairman.

“The term terrorist insurgency may be strong. But it is based upon unchallenged facts.

“Drug traffickers and criminal organizations have combined efforts to work across borders, unravel government structures, and make large profits from diverse, illegal activity. The near-term result: schools, media and candidates all controlled by criminal organizations. In other words, total anarchy.”

Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, said: “I believe that the drug cartels are acting within the federal definition of terrorism, which basically says to intimidate a civilian population or government by extortion, kidnapping or assassination. That is precisely what the drug cartels do. They extort.

“They decapitate people on a daily basis. They burn people alive. Throw people in acid baths. If that’s not intimidation, if that’s not terrorizing a civilian population, I don’t know what is.”

Since 2006, 34,600 people have died as a result of Mexican drug cartel violence, the U.S. government reported earlier this year. But McCaul says the number is now higher, asserting that “50,000 Mexican people have been killed, brutally, at the hands of these drug cartels, more than the American deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan combined.”

According to CNS News, the Act’s counterinsurgency strategy would provide an assessment of the terrain, population, ports, financial centers, and income-generating activities of the cartels, evaluate the capabilities of Mexico’s law enforcement, and coordinate with relevant federal agencies to deal with the operations of the cartels within the United States.

Washington's Rocket Bombs

Family Security Matters 14 December 2011

By Edward Cline

Think what you will about George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four. After all, you might say, it was written by a lapsed Communist and veteran of the Spanish Civil War (fighting on the Communist-dominated Republican side) and author of the Trotskyite parable, Animal Farm, an apologia for Communism. All of which is true.

But I do believe that had he not died of tuberculosis (1949), he would have become one of the first neo-conservative intellectuals and writers in the West. He had been creeping in that direction ever since the Spanish Civil War, driven by his growing and articulate animus for totalitarianism (born during WWII, during which he saw elements of it in British government domestic wartime policies). This direction could only have ultimately led him to renounce collectivism, but probably have not motivated him to advocate capitalism or found a fresh new political philosophy (as Ayn Rand did, but from a philosophical perspective, and not from a solely political one). In that respect, he was not a profound thinker or philosophical innovator. But he was a first-class and honest observer.

I have always enjoyed reading Orwell’s prose, whether or not I agreed with him on any specific topic. He was such a consciously fine writer, which explains his deceptively effortless style. My favorite essay of his is "Politics and the English Language” (1946).

As I have tried to show, modern writing at its worst does not consist in picking out words for the sake of their meaning and inventing images in order to make the meaning clearer. It consists in gumming together long strips of words which have already been set in order by someone else, and making the results presentable by sheer humbug.

Orwell is one of the very, very few writers of the liberal/left who actually respected his readers’ minds and adopted an appropriate policy of writing clearly and stated his intentions and meanings without obfuscation or equivocation.

Humbug, however, is the subject here, and while reading something else, Peter Carl’s six-part essay in The Brussels Journal, "Surviving Islam…and Right/Left Politics: Churchill’s Principle,” caused me to recall the whole "war on terror” coupled with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s hosting of a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Washington this week. That was the subject of Clare Lopez’s "Criticism of Islam Could Soon be a Crime in America” on Family Security Matters. This in turn caused me to recall something from Nineteen Eighty-Four, the role of rocket bombs that fell on London. From Part 2, Chapter 5:

The proles, normally apathetic about the war, were being lashed into one of their periodical frenzies of patriotism. As though to harmonize with the general mood, the rocket bombs had been killing larger numbers of people than usual. One fell on a crowded film theatre in Stepney, burying several hundred victims among the ruins. The whole population of the neighborhood turned out for a long, trailing funeral which went on for hours and was in effect an indignation meeting. Another bomb fell on a piece of waste ground which was used as a playground and several dozen children were blown to pieces. There were further angry demonstrations, Goldstein was burned in effigy, hundreds of copies of the poster of the Eurasian soldier were torn down and added to the flames, and a number of shops were looted in the turmoil….

In some ways she [Julia, Winston’s lover] was far more acute than Winston, and far less susceptible to Party propaganda. Once when he happened in some connection to mention the war against Eurasia, she startled him by saying casually that in her opinion the war was not happening. The rocket bombs which fell daily on London were probably fired by the Government of Oceania itself, 'just to keep people frightened'.

The mind works in not entirely mysterious ways.

"Just to keep people frightened.” How appropriate an observation to make about our own government. What have Americans seen since 9/11 but attempts to keep them frightened and pacified? The Department of Homeland Security, the "war on terror” now graduated from hunting down the kamikaze soldiers of Islamic jihad to include anyone who questions government policy (re the National Defense Authorization Act, discussed in a previous commentary, "Portrait of a Police State”), the appeal to snitch on one’s neighbors and friends, the completely useless but very expensive, intrusive, and arrogant TSA, Obamacare and other socialist legislation, the campaign to govern one’s diet and light bulbs, the government’s push to take over the Internet, the campaign to demonize freedom of speech in regards to Islam, the excising of all references to Islam, Muslims and Jihad from official documents and training materials (With whom are we at war? Eurasia or East Asia? Who knows? Terrorists just materialize from a parallel universe, not all the time from Islam, but often on blog sites and newspaper columns and not always about terrorism) – all calculated to keep the public dumbed down, diverted, quiet, misinformed, and in a constant state of semi-fright and anxiety.

They are all Orwellian rocket bombs.

Here is another rocket bomb: U.N. Resolution 16/18, which would "criminalize” any and all kinds of criticism of Islam, whether they are cogent essays or cartoons, will be an effort to utilize "techniques of peer pressure and shaming,” and is endorsed without reservation by Secretary of State Clinton. (These same remarks were repeated virtually verbatim by Daniel Baer, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the State Department’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor, which also concerns itself with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender issues, among other earth-shaking matters, at the Compass to Compassion Conference), and a career bureaucrat whose academic curriculum vitae includes degrees in every woozy, humanitarian subject imaginable. After a mountain of fluffy and venal rhetoric, Clinton noted on July 15th of this year, during a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation:

The Human Rights Council [of the U.N.] has given us a comprehensive framework for addressing this issue on the international level. But at the same time, we each have to work to do more to promote respect for religious differences in our own countries. In the United States, I will admit, there are people who still feel vulnerable or marginalized as a result of their religious beliefs. And we have seen how the incendiary actions of just a very few people, a handful in a country of nearly 300 million, can create wide ripples of intolerance. We also understand that, for 235 years, freedom of expression has been a universal right at the core of our democracy. So we are focused on promoting interfaith education and collaboration, enforcing antidiscrimination laws, protecting the rights of all people to worship as they choose, and to use some old-fashioned techniques of peer pressure and shaming, so that people don’t feel that they have the support to do what we abhor.

There is an instance of what Orwell would call the "gumming together of long strips of words which have already been set in order by someone else, and making the results presentable by sheer humbug.”

By the U.N. resolution, and through "peer pressure and shaming” advocated by our Secretary of State, "Islamophobia” will include these "criminal offenses”: Religious profiling, defamation, vilification, fear-mongering, discriminatory speech, hate speech, intolerance…ad nauseum. The resolution slump together the antics of Terry Jones of the Dove Outreach Church and his Koran burning, to authoritative essays and books by Robert Spencer, Steve Emerson, Ali Hirsi, Ibn Warraq, Pamela Geller, Melanie Phillips, Walid Shoebat, and many other experts on Islam.

The irony is that Islam that is guilty of everything its defenders charge others with. Call it "Westphobia,” or "Speechaphobia,” or "Reasonophobia.” As Pamela Geller put it, truth is the new "hate speech.” That the OIC and the U.N. would go to such lengths to oppose freedom of speech should cause one to ask: What have the Islamists to hide, that they wish to suppress the truth? What don’t they wish others to know? What truths do they not want identified, exposed and spoken and written about?

What they and their companion organizations, such as the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the Muslim Public Affairs Council, the Islamic Circle of America, and other such "civic” outfits, wish to hide is the fact that Islam is antithetical to every rational political concept in the West, that it is totalitarian in nature and in practice, that it is anti-man, anti-life, and anti-value. That it is essentially and incontrovertibly nihilist in theory and in implementation. And that Muslims who are devoted to it are essentially "dead souls,” living ballast in the form of 1.3 billion manqués on which to establish Sharia law and a global caliphate. All those dead souls: Allah owns them – this they know, for the Koran tells them so – to paraphrase Anna Bartlett Warner’s hymn, and they don’t mind.

The OIC gathering in Washington is merely one rocket bomb among others launched by our own government to keep us worried and distracted and always ducking for cover.

Such as Winston Smith did in Part 1, Chapter 8, when a rocket bomb suddenly strikes.

Winston clasped his forearms above his head. There was a roar that seemed to make the pavement heave; a shower of light objects pattered on to his back. When he stood up he found that he was covered with fragments of glass from the nearest window.

He walked on. The bomb had demolished a group of houses 200 meters up the street. A black plume of smoke hung in the sky, and below it a cloud of plaster dust in which a crowd was already forming around the ruins. There was a little pile of plaster lying on the pavement ahead of him, and in the middle of it he could see a bright red streak. When he got up to it he saw that it was a human hand severed at the wrist….

If the government launches this particular rocket bomb, and agrees with the OIC and the U.N. to enforce a ban on "hate speech” in America by statute or by "peer-pressure and shaming,” we will not see anything as prosaic as a severed wrist, but the heads of the champions of freedom of speech, severed at the neck. For the purpose of this particular rocket bomb is not to cause physical destruction and death, but to destroy the mind and establish a reign of living death.

Islamic World Tells Clinton: Defamation of Islam Must be Prevented -- in America

American Thinker 14 December 2011

By Clare M. Lopez

As Secretary of State Hillary Clinton welcomes Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu to Washington this week, it is critical that Americans pay attention to what these two leaders intend to do. From 12 to 14 December 2011, working teams from the Department of State (DoS) and the OIC are going to discuss implementation mechanisms that could impose limits on freedom of speech and expression.

The OIC's purpose, as stated explicitly in its April 2011 4th Annual Report on Islamophobia, is to criminalize "incitement to hatred and violence on religious grounds." Incitement is to be defined by applying the "test of consequences" to speech. Under this twisted perversion of falsely "yelling 'fire' in a crowded theater," it doesn't matter what someone actually says -- or even whether it is true or not; if someone else commits violence and says it's because of something that person said, the speaker will be held criminally liable.

The OIC is taking direct aim at free speech and expression about Islam. Neither Christianity nor Judaism is named in the OIC's official documents, whose only concern is to make the world safe from "defamation" of Islam -- a charge that includes speaking truthfully about the national security implications of the Islamic doctrine of jihad.

Incitement to hatred under the OIC definition includes artistic expression like the Danish cartoons, literary expression like Salman Rushdie's The Satanic Verses, or Pastor Terry Jones' burning of his personally owned copy of the Qur'an. According to the "test of consequences," if Muslims feel compelled to burn, loot, riot, and kill in response to such exercises of free expression, under the laws the OIC wants the U.S. to enact, it would be the editor and cartoonist of the Jyllands-Posten newspaper, Salman Rushdie, and Terry Jones who would be held criminally responsible for any damage or deaths that ensue.

Last March, the State Department and Secretary Clinton insisted that "combating intolerance based on religion" can be accomplished without compromising Americans' treasured First Amendment rights. But if that were so, there would be no possible excuse for engaging at this level with an organization like the OIC that is openly dedicated to implementing Islamic law globally. This is why it is so important to pay attention not only to the present agenda, but to a series of documents leading up to it, issued by both the U.S. and the OIC. From 12 to 14 December 2011, the DoS and OIC working teams will focus on implementation mechanisms for "Resolution 16/18," a declaration that was adopted by the U.N. Human Rights Council in April 2011.

Resolution 16/18 was hailed as a victory by Clinton, because it calls on countries to combat "intolerance, negative stereotyping and stigmatization" based on religion without criminalizing free speech -- except in cases of "incitement to imminent violence." But if the criterion for determining "incitement to imminent violence" is a new "test of consequences," then this is nothing but an invitation to stage Muslim "Days of Rage" following the slightest perceived offense by a Western blogger, instructor, or radio show guest, all of whom will be held legally liable for "causing" the destruction, possibly even if what they've said is merely a statement of fact. The implications of such prior restraint on free speech would be chilling (which is precisely the point).

In fact, the "test of consequences" is already being applied rigorously in European media and courts, where any act or threat of violence -- whether by a jihadist, insane person, or counter-jihadist -- is defined as a "consequence" of statements that are critical of some aspect of Islam and, therefore, to be criminalized. Recent trials of Dutch political leader Geert Wilders, Austrian free speech champion Elizabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff, and Danish Islamic expert Lars Hedegaard (as well as the witch hunt for "instigators" that followed the murderous attacks by Norwegian blogger Anders Behring Brevik) all attest to the extent of these "hate speech" laws' oppressive pall over what is left of the European Enlightenment. Now, if the OIC and the Obama administration have their way, it's America's turn.

Once it's understood that under Islamic law, "slander" is defined as saying "anything concerning a person [a Muslim] that he would dislike," the scope of potential proximate causes of Muslim rage becomes obvious. For instance, in the Preamble to the Resolutions on Legal Affairs Adopted by the 38th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OIC in Astana, Kazakhstan in June 2011, under paragraph 9, the OIC:

Denounces media campaigns and fabrications made by some quarters in non-Member States [i.e., the Dar al-Harb or West] regarding the mistreatment of non-Muslim minorities and communities in the OIC Member States under the slogan of religious freedom and so on.

Consider what is likely to be a bloodbath for Coptic Christians that will occur as soon as the Muslim Brotherhood and its Salafist allies are firmly in control of Egypt. This provision means that any Western media that accurately report that coming massacre could be legally charged with "incitement to imminent violence" under the test of consequences, in effect blaming those who raise the alarm instead of those who perpetrate the violence.

Clearly, the OIC feels some sense of urgency to get the rest of the non-Muslim world, and especially the U.S., on board with these objectives as Paragraph 10:

Expresses the need to pursue as a matter of priority, a common policy aimed at preventing defamation of Islam perpetrated under the pretext and justification of the freedom of expression in particular through media and Internet.

In this same document is the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers' "Resolution No. 1/38-LEG On Follow Up and Coordination of Work on Human Rights," which makes reference to the OIC's new "Independent Permanent Commission on Human Rights" and stipulates that it "shall promote the civil, political, social, and economic rights enshrined in the Organization's covenants and declarations and in universally agreed human rights instruments, in conformity with Islamic values." [Emphasis added.] This wording alone should set off alarm bells in view of the OIC's 1990 Cairo Declaration on Human Rights in Islam (CDHRI), which explicitly declared that when the Muslim ummah (as represented by the OIC) uses the term "human rights," what is meant is Islamic law (sharia). "Universally agreed" or not, the CDHRI was served as an official document to the U.N. Commission on Human Rights in 1993, thereby creating an established instrument of reference on the Islamic definition of "human rights."

The foundational documents upon which the Muslim ummah -- the OIC -- now relies to undergird its sharia agenda were drafted years ago. The 1966 U.N. Commission for Human Rights International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which entered into force in 1976, was based firmly on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and preceded the 1969 creation of the OIC by just a few years. The ICCPR's Articles 19 (3) and 20 nevertheless foreshadow sharia Islam's demand for restrictions on free speech in an explicit and chilling way -- and, as will be seen, in a way the OIC is trying to exploit:

Article 19

1. Everyone shall have the right to hold opinions without interference

2. Everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression: this right shall include freedom to seek, receive, and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form of art, or through any other media of this choice

3. The exercise of the rights provided for in paragraph 2 of this article carries with it special duties and responsibilities. It may therefore be subject to certain restrictions, but these shall only be such as provided by law and are necessary.

(a) For respect of the rights or reputations of others;

(b) For the protection of national security or of public order (ordre public), or of public health or morals.

Article 20

1. Any propaganda for war shall be prohibited by law

2. Any advocacy of national, racial or religious hatred that constitutes incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence shall be prohibited by law.

Clearly, the OIC is trying to exploit these international standards, as shown in its April 2011 4th Annual Report on Islamophobia posted at its online Islamophobia Observatory. Given the ICCPR's assertions above, the OIC's objective has long since been entered into official U.N. language. It required only a narrowing of the focus from the generality of the ICCPR down to the OIC's exclusive interest in protecting Islam from discrimination. It also required bringing the U.S. on board with the program to enforce Islamic law on slander. With the willing participation of the Obama administration, the OIC has tackled both of these challenges. In Section 6 of the Islamophobia Report, "Conclusions and Recommendations," the language references the OIC goal of "removing the gaps in international legal instruments" to force the non-Muslim world to comply with its plan to criminalize "slander" of Islam (emphasis added):

d. Ensuring swift and effective implementation of the new approach signified by the consensual adoption of HRC Resolution 16/18, entitled 'combating intolerance, negative stereotyping and stigmatization of, and discrimination, incitement to violence, and violence against persons based on religion or belief', by inter alia, removing the gaps in implementation and interpretation of international legal instruments and criminalizing acts of incitement to hatred and violence...

e. Constructively engaging to bridge divergent views on the limits to the right to freedom of opinion and expression, in a structured multilateral framework...geared toward filling the 'interpretation void' with regard to the interface between articles 19(3) and 20 of the ICCPR based on emerging approaches like applying the 'test of consequences.'

Those "gaps in implementation and interpretation" refer to U.S. objections to criminalizing free speech (in violation of the First Amendment), and the "structured multilateral framework" would appear to be the agenda in Washington, D.C. from December 12 to 14 at the meeting between Clinton and OIC Secretary General Ihsanoglu. It would not be overreaching to conclude that the purpose of this meeting, at least from the OIC perspective, is to convince the Obama administration that free speech that rouses Muslim masses to fury -- as defined by the "test of consequences" -- must be restricted under U.S. law to bring it into compliance with sharia law's dictates on slander.

Clinton's own statements reflect the OIC language on the "gap" (emphasis added):

... together we have begun to overcome the false divide that pits religious sensitivities against freedom of expression, and we are pursuing a new approach based on concrete steps ... to use some old-fashioned techniques of peer pressure and shaming, so that people don't feel that they have the support to do what we abhor.

Despite disingenuous protestations by Clinton, another OIC document likely to be on the table at the Department of State/OIC working sessions abandons all pretense that any other religion besides Islam is the point of discussion. The Resolutions on Political Affairs Adopted by the Thirty-Eighth Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers at the June 2011 OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Kazakhstan (emphasis added):

5. Affirms that freedoms have to be exercised with responsibility and with due regard for the fundamental rights of others and, in this context, condemns in the strongest possible terms, all blasphemous acts against Islamic principles, symbols and sacred personalities, in particular, the despicable act of burning of the Holy Quran in Florida, USA on 20 March 2011, publication of offensive caricatures of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), all abhorrent and irresponsible statements about Islam and its sacred personalities, and screening of defamatory documentary about the Holy Quran [Wilders' Fitna] and dissemination of this hate material under the pretext of freedom of expression and opinion[.]

Subsequent sections in the same document stress "the need to prevent the abuse of freedom of expression and press for insulting Islam and other divine religions" and to reaffirm "that terrorism cannot and should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilization or group." It furthermore:

[c]alls upon all States to prevent any advocacy of religious discrimination, hostility or violence and defamation of Islam by incorporating legal and administrative measures which render defamation illegal and punishable by law, and also urges all Member States to adopt specific and relevant educational measures at all levels[.]

It may be recalled that the Obama administration claimed, obviously incorrectly, that defamation was no longer part of these agreements. The language of these resolutions instead stresses "the importance of expediting the implementation process of its decision on developing a legally binding international instrument to prevent intolerance, discrimination, prejudice and hatred on the grounds of religion, and defamation of religions[.]"

The Department of State is not the only U.S. government agency committed to achieving compliance with the OIC's "Islamophobia" censorship agenda. The Departments of Justice and Homeland Security both have committed publicly to an overhaul of their training materials to ensure that nothing in the curriculum gives "offense" to Muslim Brotherhood affiliates such as the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) or the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC), with which both departments maintain close relationships. Instructors who previously taught the intrinsic connection among Islamic doctrine, law, and scripture and Islamic terrorism henceforth will be blacklisted by the U.S. government. As documented by the intrepid columnist and author Diana West, the Department of Defense also has made its obeisance to Islam, with troop instructions on how to handle the Qur'an and avoid spitting, urinating, or sleeping with feet pointed in the direction of Mecca.

Capping the administration's campaign to align U.S. national security policy within the parameters of Islamic law, the White House published "Strategic Implementation Plan for Empowering Local Partners to Prevent Violent Extremism in the United States" in December 2011. The plan makes clear that "violent extremism," not Islamic terrorism, is the primary national security threat to the homeland. According to this "strategy," the solution is partnership with "local communities" -- the term used for the administration's favored Muslim Brotherhood front groups, which already are using such relationships to silence their critics, both inside and outside government. These new rules of censorship state that the term "violent extremism" can no longer be used in combination with terms like "jihad," "Islam," "Islamist," or "sharia." And these new rules are already being taught to U.S. law enforcement, homeland security offices, and the military nationwide.

The agenda of this week's Department of State/OIC meetings may mark an important "milestone," as Sayyed Qutb might put it, on the pathway to sharia in America. If -- under the "test of consequences" -- those who speak truth about Islam, sharia, and jihad may be held criminally responsible for the violent actions of those who say they find such truth "offensive," then, in the future, "violent extremists" could be just about anyone...anyone the government, in obedience to the sharia dictates of the OIC, decides they are.

Further, if the rubric is to be based on this "test of consequence," then it creates a real temptation to any administration so inclined to "create" consequences that will justify a change in America's free speech rights. By way of example, analysts have suggested that the motive for the Department of Justice's "Fast and Furious" scandal, now under congressional investigation, may have been to create a "crisis" -- a "consequence" -- caused by U.S. guns shipped across the border to Mexican drug-dealers (and used in multiple homicides, including an American Border Protection officer) to "nudge" public consensus to expand gun control laws.

Even if Obama's State Department seems fully enamored with a "test of consequences" on speech critical of Islam, most Americans across the political spectrum will realize that this perverts the traditional understanding of the First Amendment. It is to be hoped that dedication to the Constitution -- rather than to the OIC's definition of "slander" of Islam or the "test of consequences" -- will prevail among the ranks of our national leadership. Regardless of what's going on behind closed doors at the State Department this week, Americans should be aware -- and outraged. An informed citizenry, as always, remains the final defense of the Republic.

“A watched kettle never boils.” A sage piece of advice for cooks or anyone waiting for something to come to fruition. Unfortunately for us, we seem to have applied that advice to ourselves and ceased watching the governmental cauldron that is Washington, D.C. Bad move – a very bad move. Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry and Wendell Phillips have all reminded us, at one time or another, that “Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.” Would that we had listened better. Perhaps we would not presently be hurtling into the Keynesian abyss on a FED powered train from hell. This of course after having been groped (for our own safety) prior to forced boarding.

However, we are. So, it’s time to stop lying to ourselves and each other. We, the people, have been complacent and apathetic too long. Blind far, far too long. The crisis we find ourselves in today is our own fault. The peoples’ fault. We forgot to be vigilant. We prospered, we got comfortable, and we decided to leave governing to the well-intentioned politicians and ‘experts’ who knew best how to run the country and maintain our prosperity. At least – that’s what they told us and apparently what they thought. Look around…how well has that worked out for us? Daniel Webster warned long ago, “Good intentions will always be pleaded for every assumption of authority. It is hardly too strong to say that the Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters.” And master they did, but they were not “masters” of anything except a slow, insidious destruction. Time to admit and correct the mistakes.

America was founded on a vision of liberty and protection for all individuals. Each and everyone of us is an individual. Sovereign to none but God. Equal one to another in liberty and sovereignty – if we but believe it. Government does not give us liberty, nor can government raise or lower us in any truly meaningful way. Under the Constitution, the sole purpose of government is to protect the liberty of each and every one of us regardless of race, gender, or party. So throw off the yoke of assigned groupings used to perpetuate strife and divisions. Have confidence in your worth. You, me, WE are the REAL power. Stand up, stand together and let your voices be heard. Our country is too big, our population too diverse for us all to agree on everything. However, we can agree on a few big issues which we all hold dear. What could be dearer than the ideals of liberty? It’s time to remember that America is a Republic, not a democracy. Time to remember that the government our ancestors created – as sovereign peoples of their respectively sovereign state(s) compacting together – was formed to restrain the government and never the people.

Our ancestors did not fight and die for the debauched city, drunk on the blood of illusionary slain dragons, that now masquerades behind its tattered carnival mask as our seat of government. Nor did they give their precious lives and blood to ensure that the wealth of one half of their “posterity” would be stolen by government agents and redistributed, through charity programs deemed “necessary and proper”, to provide for the “general welfare” of the other half. They would sob with misery at what we have allowed to occur. “A democracy,” was not the answer provided by Benjamin Franklin, when asked what kind of government had been given to the people. Instead he admonished, “A Republic, madam, if you [the whole of the people] can keep it.” We have not kept it. We allowed, and even encouraged, it to become the ravenous leviathan of democracy that seems intent on swallowing us whole to increase its own power and size. But proper defense requires knowledge and vigilance. If you don’t have a copy of the Constitution in your house…buy one, read it online, or download it from the Internet for free. But read it – once, twice, many fold – till you are at least passingly familiar with it. Then educate others and rally together to defend your liberty and your Republic.

Do NOT rally together to fight for the sake of party. Political parties will not save us as claimed, nor have they ever. Parties divide and weaken the power of WE the People to restrain our government as is our duty. Through party, control is wrested from all of the people of the Republic and given over to either the “blue team” or the “red team”. I mention here only two controlling forces, since the other parties (libertarian, green, independent, etc.) are barely given the most grudging of places on voting ballots, at a prohibitively high cost I might mention, and almost never a place at the debate table. To pretend otherwise would be not only hypocritical, but ridiculous. George Washington had this (among other things) to say about parties, “They serve to organize faction, to give it [one party or another] an artificial and extraordinary force; to put, in the place of the delegated will of the nation, the will of a party.” Political parties keep us focussed on controversial issues that will NEVER be agreed upon by all. Tune into any talk radio show, already conveniently divided into left and right, (two more team terms) and listen to the hosts rant and rave at and about the “other side”. Finger pointing, blame assignments, and name calling are main staples of these shows. The format is mirrored in television and print media as well. In this way the opposing “teams” are kept stirred up, angry, and arguing about various emotionally charged positions. Thus ensuring that both teams don’t come together in a coalition strong enough to not only restrain, but reform and reduce government back to its Constitutional size and role. Perhaps the most offensive thing about party politics is that after successfully dividing the people and achieving victory for one team or the other, BOTH teams then work together (while appearing not to through more media finger-pointing and name-calling) to “reach compromises” that not only increase the scope and size of governmental over-reach, but decrease the freedoms of the very people who employ them to do otherwise. It’s time we stopped pretending the defense of liberty and protection of our Republic is a team sport of some kind. If we want to wave a pennant, place a bet, or cheer on a team we should attend a real sporting event. When it comes to politics we better damn well forget the idea of team and start backing individual candidates who will uphold their oaths to the Constitution. Letters are for high school sports apparel, not for determining the best political candidate.

With the Internet easily accessible to all, there is absolutely no excuse not to research each candidate to whom we consider giving our vote. If time is a factor, and it will be for many, then form study groups and lessen the time burden. Voting is not something you should do based on how a candidate looks and sounds, or what the media says you should know about them. Research their past records, listen to old speeches, and find out what they have done in their daily lives. You can Google anything today and get answers. It’s not enough that candidates say they follow the Constitution. It doesn’t matter how patriotic or religious they sound when telling you they love the Constitution – have they upheld it through actions or not? Have they kept their promises? These people will represent our interests and if we choose poorly we will end up with more of the same. More spending, more borrowing, more inflationary printing, more cronyism, and more unaffordable wars. We will extend our time in the abyss substantially. We’ll not only disembark and set up camp, but wave good-bye as the status-quo cronies use what’s left of our wealth to power themselves and their train along a little longer. We, however, will be left to stumble about in poverty and tyranny for years to come.

I have never voted in any election, but I have been watching them for years. Since 2007, I have been listening and researching. In all that time I have found but one presidential candidate (in both this and the last election) for whom I would and will give my vote, my money and my time. That candidate is Ron Paul. Decades of upholding his oath of office, voting only for Constitutional legislation, and standing on his principles – often completely alone – proves to me that he will do his best to achieve his stated goals for our country. An astoundingly long record of consistently saying the truth – again, often completely alone, as well as in the face of extensive ridicule – convinces me that he is deserving of my trust, my time and efforts, and my hard-earned money. I give all of them freely to a candidate who would be president in order to restore my liberties, not usurp more of them to enhance the powers stubbornly perpetuating “business as usual” and driving our country to ruin.

Ron Paul will restore America. Rally with him. Rally for your Republic. Rally for love of this amazingly beautiful and bountiful land, that has for so long been a shining beacon to so many in the world. Rally for the precious freedom that has sustained this country since it’s inception, but so many around the world still struggle to attain. Rally for the glorious gift of liberty that burns in the hearts of men and women everywhere, but has had the best chance of survival in America since the day our founders declared their independence and pledged their lives, wealth, and sacred honor to establish it. Rally for the love of everyone, past and present, whose lives and actions have all played a part in the building of America.

For the love of God – unite. Come together.

Rally and fight for your Republic before it’s too late. Rally with us to defend liberty. Rally with the Champion of the Constitution, Ron Paul. Rally and defend liberty, for liberty’s sake – for all our sakes.

Five Ways To Create New Jobs In America

From The Heritage Foundation:

Five Ways to Create New Jobs in America

Two years ago, President Barack Obama was bold in his optimism for job growth in America, promising that his stimulus spending plans would create 3 million jobs by the end of 2010. It didn't work, the Obama jobs deficit now stands at 6.7 million jobs, and tonight the President will present a jobs plan chock full of new promises. Unfortunately, that plan appears to be a retread of the same policies that have blocked job growth in America.

The good news is that there is another way, and there are things the President can do to pave the way for businesses to create new jobs.

1) Do Less, Not More: For the last two-and-a-half years, we have seen the federal government spend more and regulate more. Instead, the government should step back and free America's businesses to grow, thereby creating jobs. Heritage's J.D. Foster writes:

At this stage the primary focus should be on government doing less to the economy in its attempt to do anything to spur recovery. The basic strengths of the American economy remain undiminished and undamaged by recent events. What is lacking is not smarter nostrums from Washington, but a chance to breathe, more clarity, and a respite from the flurry of "do somethings" that have spewed from the nation's capital.

2) Restore Confidence, Eliminate Uncertainty: One of President Obama's favorite talking points is that wealthier Americans should "pay their fair share" of taxes, threatening to raise rates on small businesses and investors. That rhetoric might play well in populist circles, but his calls for the redistribution of wealth at the expense of the most productive elements of the economy has a real cost--provoking uncertainty.

The President should stop proposing tax hikes and instead focus on instilling confidence in the economy. He can do that by pressing Congress to make current tax policy permanent or, at the very least, extend current policy until the economy returns to near full employment.

3) Get Spending Under Control: President Obama has tried massive government spending to stimulate the economy, and today we're seeing the results. Deficits, 9.1 percent unemployment, 14 million unemployed, no new jobs created in August, and a reduced credit rating.

Instead of more spending, the President should focus on getting spending under control, reforming entitlements, and setting the United States on a fiscal path with greater economic certainty.

4) Eliminate Unnecessary Regulations: In the first six months of the 2011 fiscal year, 15 major regulations were issued with annual costs exceeding $5.8 billion. Since Inauguration Day, the Obama Administration imposed 75 new major regulations with annual costs of $38 billion. The regulations that are on the books--and the ones that are yet to come--drive up the cost of doing business, discourage investment, and leave businesses waiting on the sidelines until they have more certainty about their future. Instead of regulating more, Washington should end the regulatory assault, eliminate unnecessary regulations, and free our businesses to grow and create jobs.

5) Repeal Obamacare: The President's signature health care law brings with it more spending, costly mandates and regulations, and higher taxes, all of which weigh heavily on individuals and businesses. Repealing Obamacare would go a long way toward getting America back on the job creation path. Heritage's Nina Owcharenko explains:

Obamacare is perhaps the most damaging of the Administration's policies that are impeding the country's recovery. At a time when there should be a focus on cutting spending, reducing regulation, and lowering taxes, Obamacare does the complete opposite. It spends more, imposes costly new mandates and regulations, and raises taxes on individuals and businesses. This is no way to get the economy up and running again.

Today, there are 1.7 million fewer Americans working than when the President's stimulus bill was enacted. Bigger government did not deliver on the promise of creating more jobs for Americans. And though many on the left see an even bigger government and more spending as the cure for America's stagnant job growth, that simply has not worked. Instead, it's time for the President and Congress to look away from government--not toward it--have Washington get out of the way, and allow job growth to return to the fruited plain.

Immigration Offenses Make Latinos New Majority In Prisons

Immigration offenses make Latinos new majority in prisons

A new government report found that Latinos now account for more than half of all felony offenders sentenced this year as a result of immigration offenses; the report released on Tuesday by the U.S. Sentencing Commission revealed that Latinos comprised 50.3 percent of all people sentenced in the first nine months of this fiscal year

A new government report found that Latinos now account for more than half of all felony offenders sentenced this year as a result of immigration offenses.

The report released on Tuesday by the U.S. Sentencing Commission revealed that Latinos comprised 50.3 percent of all people sentenced in the first nine months of this fiscal year. In comparison 19.7 percent of felony convictions were for African-Americans and 26.4 percent for Caucasians.

“Statistics like this have to start drawing attention to this country’s immigration policies and what we’re doing, if this is one of the results,” said Fordham University Law School professor Deborah Denno, an expert on racial disparities in the criminal justice system. “The implications for Latinos are huge when you think of the number of families affected by having their breadwinners put away for what in some cases would be considered a non-violent offense.”

The latest statistics come as part of a decade long trend that show immigration crimes like illegal crossings and alien smuggling have largely been responsible for the increase in the number of Latinos sent to prison.

Latinos make up roughly 16 percent of the entire U.S. population, but they outnumber all other ethnic groups sentenced to serve time in prison for federal crimes.

California Lawmakers Approve DREAM Act

California lawmakers approve Dream Act

Last week California legislators approved a controversial bill that would allow undocumented workers to receive state loans for college

Last week California legislators approved a controversial bill that would allow undocumented workers to receive state loans for college. The proposed law has been sent to Governor Jerry Brown, who is expected to sign it.

The bill, AB131 also known as the Dream Act, would allow undocumented students who are high school graduates and have attended California schools for at least three years to apply for state loans to help pay for college tuition, fees, books, and living expenses.

The proposed law passed forty-five to twenty-seven, largely along party lines in the state senate.

Assemblyman Gil Cedillo, (D - Los Angeles), who introduced the bill, argued that the legislation was necessary to keep California’s workforce competitive in a global economy. Cedillo said the state needed educated workers for the future, even those who may not have entered the country legally but have excelled in academics.

“We will need them for our future, for our position in the global economy,” he said. “We don’t have one student to spare.”

The bill comes on the heels of a similar piece of legislation that would make undocumented workers eligible for privately funded scholarships, which Governor Brown has already signed into law. Unlike the federal proposal that bears the same name, the California version of the Dream Act does not provide a path to citizenship.

Critics of the bill argue that even if the undocumented workers graduate from college, businesses will still be unable to legally hire them. Others pointed to already overcrowded schools and the lack of federal action.

“Here today we don’t have enough slots for all the students in California who want to attend our great institutions, there just aren’t enough. So until the federal government makes immigration reform a priority and tackles that, what are we doing? We’re offering false promises,” said Assemblyman Curt Hagman, (R - Chino Hills).

Meanwhile supporters of the bill say it helps to push the federal government to take action on immigration reform.

“As California sets once again the bar high for other states to follow, we commend the state’s leadership and wisdom to see beyond an immigration status and proactively integrate immigrants. Let this vote be an inspiration for the federal government to update immigration laws once and for all,” said Angelica Salas, executive director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles.

Legislative analysis estimates that the bill could cost California as much as $40 million a year. Colleges and universities do not have statistics on the number of undocumented students attend each year, but officials guess there are roughly 642 students in the University of California system without the proper documentation, 3,600 students in the California State University system, and 34,000 in community colleges.

Mexican Border Agents Cross Into U.S. Again Without Permission

A national watchdog group warns that incursions along the southern border by the Mexican government could be a serious potential security threat.

An investigation by Judicial Watch, a national watchdog group based in Washington, DC, found evidence of several border incursions by the Mexican government in the past several years.

“We were shocked to find that the incidents involved shots fired on both sides of the border, unmarked helicopters invading U.S. airspace, drug smuggling and confrontations between U.S. Border Patrol Agents and armed members of the Mexican Military,” said Tom Fitton, the president of Judicial Watch.

Last week a group of Dove hunters in El Paso, Texas near the Zaragoza Bridge were reported to have run into Mexican Federal Police Agents who allegedly shot at the hunters and stole some hunting equipment.

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol confirmed that Mexican agents had crossed into the United States without permission, and the agency is currently investigating the matter.

There is no evidence to confirm what happened during the incident, but both the Border Patrol and the Mexican government are looking into the case.

Fitton said that the most recent incident indicates that the incursion “was not only purposeful, but criminal in the sense that [Mexican agents] came over and seemingly robbed folks.”

He went on to argue that the incursions suggest the federal government has not done enough to secure the border.

“What it means, and it shows, is the border is obviously un-secure and unsafe. With the recent restrictions regarding hunting on the border you have to wonder, who controls our territory? The Mexican Government or the U.S. Government?”

Even further, the author suggests that natural medicine teaches not only the treatment of disease but also its prevention by instilling dietary and lifestyle habits that promote health.
