Mom Restrains, Dad Films While TSA Torments 3 Year Old Girl

UPDATE: Yesterday, when I posted this, I wrote:

As a father of six (including a 3 year old little girl of our own), words fail me…

Well, I’m over that now that I’ve had some time to consider what has happened here. I’ve revised the title for accuracy and inserted some additional thoughts below the video.

Editor’s Note: The video on YouTube keeps getting pulled by the producers. They cite copyright concerns (funny how the media will pull some things, but not others). Fortunately, there are many people posting it out there, so I’m able to keep linking to versions that are still working till they also get pulled. If this one stops working, please advise michael@fedupflyers.org.

I understand she was cranky – I can see that. But Mr. Simon, your daughter seemed more than “a little bit scared” to me when she was frantically fleeing to your wife and fighting to get away from the agent who just kept right on pawing her.

If the balance between sacrifice and security “just didn’t feel right” when your little girl was screaming, “STOP TOUCHING ME!”, whose responsibility do you believe it was to make it right and protect her?

You, father and sovereign citizen, were the ranking authority in that situation. You failed your daughter and breached the natural trust between parent and child – big time. So did your wife.

This detestable event illustrates several of the most important issues that factor into the embarrassing nightmare we’re facing right now in this land. It’s certainly true that the actions of the state in our airports are utterly appalling and have raised the ire of law abiding citizens far and wide. But I have been asking for some time, and believe we must all ask, “If so many people so passionately hate this madness, how was it ever allowed to come this far?”

Yes – allowed! Steve Simon and his wife allowed the TSA to mistreat their daughter, even arguably aiding and abetting their criminal mischief. And that is what we, the people, have done and are still doing while we rant in the media and on the Internet about the injustice, rattling our cage doors in outrage, yet securely contained like gorillas at the zoo beating our chests as our keepers look on in amusement.

But we are not helpless animals behind bars and glass. We the people own this bloody zoo and the keepers work for us and they’re all worthless and ought to be thrown to the lions or, at the very least fired and escorted off the property.

What is wrong with everybody? How can a father just stand there and film such a thing? How can a whole nation watch and nod its head in obtuse agreement about how very uncivilized it all is like sympathetic spectators who are not truly disturbed by any of it because, they believe, it’s all part of the show?

No, people – this is not theater. These things are really happening in our country today! Please for the love of God, even if you don’t fly or plan to any time soon, just go to the airport and observe the state’s front line agents at work. Listen to the way they speak to your fellow citizens passing through the check points. Watch them molest our elders and children and disabled along with crew members and everyone else without provocation. Be furious.

BE FURIOUS!!!

I’ve recently spoken with more people than I can count who’ve subjected themselves to being frisked, thinking it would be no big deal, only to come away understanding (to their horror and alarm) that they had in no uncertain terms been physically and most often sexually assaulted. Again, it’s not television where one actor pats another’s arms and legs, dramatizing what real cops do when they frisk a criminal who might murder them. A real frisking is rough and extremely invasive. Under legitimate circumstances it has to be.

Going to your high school reunion, a sales meeting, or a funeral does not constitute a legitimate circumstance.

So why is anyone still flying? Where are you all going that is more important than protecting your little ones and your own physical person, to say nothing of our national identity and way of life? I know, you have to travel for work. Well, I’m an airline pilot – travel is my work. But you have family obligations, kids to feed, marrying and giving in marriage to attend to. I have a wife and six kids myself so, believe me, I understand such obligations and what they bring to bear on the heart and mind in this terrible fix we face.

Nevertheless, the truth abides. And it is precisely because of our highest obligations to family and to one another that we must not repeat the failures of Steve Simon, his wife, and so many others – even ourselves – who have allowed and continue to allow this tide of tyranny to roll across our land. Stop it now. Right now – not after that trip you planned to take in the morning. Right now.

Mr. Simon, I mean you and your wife no ill will or disrespect. I have failed my own family many times in many ways myself over the years. Please make it right with your daughter. Help her understand that what the agent did to her was wrong. But you would be remiss to stop there and leave it at that – and doing so might affect her and your relationship for many years. Help her to also understand that you were wrong, and that you know it, and that this isn’t just something she has to adjust to and accept because such is life. Ask for her forgiveness – I’m sure she will give it. And, having put things right, I’m sure you and your family will be happy and strong.

Then get to work. Your television personality shapes culture – and there is much work to be done in our culture, where truth is oppressed and people are simply unable to distinguish it from the cacophony of lies filling the air.

Another Update: Watching it again, notice the TSA official’s comment that screeners should “come up with some kind of game” to entice children to be inappropriately touched by strangers. Such deceptive tactics come right out of the child abduction/pedophile handbook, no?
