Hundreds of illegal aliens from terror-linked nations such as Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Pakistan, Iran and Syria have been nabbed by the U.S. Border Patrol sneaking illegally into the country, and an organization that monitors government's actions and prosecutes malfeasance says given Barack Obama's record on border security, it's not a surprise.

The terror-linked illegals were among the 463,382 individuals apprehended being smuggled – or smuggling others – across the U.S. borders last year according to federal documents obtained by Judicial Watch.

"We should not be surprised if terrorists take advantage of our porous borders in light of the Obama administration's lax approach to border security," said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. "When you have an administration that pushes illegal alien amnesty, permits illegal alien sanctuary policies, and attacks states like Arizona for seeking to enforce the rule of law, it sends a signal to our enemies to cross the border illegally and to do their worst."

Fitton said the Obama administration "continues to allow our borders to spiral out of control."

"These numbers are simply astonishing," he said. "Our country cannot secure our borders soon enough!"

The federal documentation, obtained by Judicial Watch under a Freedom of Information Act procedure, revealed that 8,905 illegal aliens were caught smuggling others.

Also, the U.S. Border Patrol captured 59,017 illegal aliens from nations other than Mexico, including four on the State Department's list of state sponsors of terrorism – Cuba, Iran, Syria and Sudan.

The government said 712 of those arrested were from Cuba, 14 from Iran, five from Sudan, and five from Syria. Others come from Somalia (nine), Afghanistan (nine), Pakistan (37), Saudi Arabia (five) and Yemen (11), according to Judicial Watch.

Overall, U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended 663 "Aliens from Special Interest Countries," the report said. These countries are deemed "special interest" because of their suspected ties to terrorism.

The numbers also tell only a part of the story, since the report confirms the U.S. Border Patrol estimates three of every four illegal aliens who cross the border evade apprehension.

The organization suggested the idea of terrorists entering the U.S. through an illegal border crossing is not that far-fetched.

"Press reports thrust the issue of suspected terrorists crossing the border into the spotlight in May 2010 when the Department of Homeland Security issued an alert to authorities in Texas to be on the lookout for a member of the Somali-based terrorist group al-Shabaab, who was suspected of hatching a plot to cross into the U.S. through Mexico," Judicial Watch said.

"The warning followed an indictment unsealed earlier that month in a Texas federal court accusing a Texas Somali man of running a 'large-scale smuggling enterprise' charged with bringing hundreds of Somalis across the Mexican border. Many of these illegal aliens were suspected of having ties to terrorist organizations," Judicial Watch said.

But it noted until now, the Obama administration offered little information regarding the overall scope of the growing national security problem.

WND reported when Judicial Watch uncovered information documenting that the Obama Department of Justice worked hand-in-hand with the American Civil Liberties Union to attack Arizona over its tough new immigration law.

The law, which is being challenged before the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, was fiercely opposed by immigrant rights advocacy organizations last year. It allows state law enforcement officials to crack down on illegal aliens who already are violating federal law.

Judicial Watch posted online a file of nearly 100 pages of documents it obtained from the government, revealing that the DOJ "worked hand-in-hand with the American Civil Liberties Union."

The documents, obtained through the Federal Freedom of Information Act, showed that there was an exchange of "touching base" e-mails between Lucas Guttentag, chief of the ACLU's Immigrants' Rights Project, and Edwin Kneedler, deputy solicitor general under the Obama administration's Department of Justice.

Guttentag wrote to Kneedler:

I left a voicemail earlier today about checking in once the district court rules. Would you be available then? [Redacted statement] And from all of us, thank you again for your argument on behalf of the United States. Lucas

Responded Kneedler:

Thanks Lucas. We should definitely check in once we hear. We'll be huddling here as soon as we can. What is your thinking at this point on if/how you will proceed in various possible scenarios? It was good to see you, even if only briefly, and to be on the same side for once! [Redacted statement] I have a feeling we might be seeing each other again on this case. Ed

Following up was Guttentag:

Thanks Ed. Yes, a real pleasure to be on the same side. I think we will be strongly inclined to seek an immediate emergency injunction from the 9th Circuit… Can you share your current thinking with regard to the various scenarios? Best Lucas

"It is one thing to share the ACLU's disrespect for the rule of law but it is quite another to collude with the organization on a prosecutorial strategy against the state of Arizona," said Fitton.
