Range war ahead? Utah legislator proposing bill to receive ownership of federal lands within state
A Utah lawmaker is proposing legislation that could result in a monumental battle with the federal government over land in the state.
Rep. Ken Ivory, R-West Jordan, visited Logan on Friday to talk to a political science class at Utah State University about the bill, and he spoke with The Herald Journal afterward.
“We start with the problem. We’ve got a $5.2 billion looming hole,” Ivory said, referring to the amount of federal dollars in the state’s $12 billion budget.
He said the state is already facing 9 percent cuts from the federal government as a result of the “failed supercommittee.”
