Thousands Of Illegal Aliens Voted In Colorado

From Human Events:

Thousands of Illegal Aliens Voted in Colorado

On Meet The Press on Sunday, elitist liberal pundit E.J. Dionne sniped that as America changes demographically, Republicans would attempt to prevent minorities from voting so that Republicans can hold on to power. Dionne forgot that Republicans do not want to prevent minorities from voting but merely want to prevent illegals from illegally breaking the law and voting in local, state, and federal elections and stealing them for Democrats.

Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler testified on March 31 testified before the Committe on House Administration regarding the possibility that thousands of illegal voters voted in Colorado's election.

Gessler said that a study his office undertook "indicate Colorado has a problem. Individuals who have presented proof of non-citizenship during transactions with the Colorado Department of Revenue are also listed on the voter rolls."

According to the report:

The Department of State recently compared Colorado’s voter registration database with driver’s license records to determine whether non-citizens are registered to vote in Colorado. Starting in August, 2006, people seeking a Colorado driver’s license have been required to show proof of legal presence. Accordingly, in 2006 the Department of Revenue began recording the type of document that established an applicant’s legal presence in Colorado. The Department of State requested these records from the Department of Revenue this January and compared them to the voter rolls.

The comparison identified 11,805 individuals who (1) were non-citizens at the time they obtained a driver’s license, and (2) are registered to vote. As discussed below, the Department of State is nearly certain that 106 individuals are improperly registered to vote. And potentially many of the remaining 11,805 individuals are also improperly registered to vote. It is impossible to provide a precise number, however, because voter registration data are inconclusive

While the exact numbers may be inconclusive, the fact remains that many more than a handful of voters illegaly participated in Colorado's elections and potentially stole some close elections for Democrats.

Rep. Gregg Harper (R-Miss.) stated that "this report is a disturbing wake-up call for election administrators across the country and cause for every state to review their current registration processes and safeguards designed to prevent illegal voting."

Added Harper: "we simply cannot have an electoral system that allows thousands of non-citizens to violate the law and vote in our elections. We must do more to protect the integrity of our electoral processes.”

In 2008, John McCain's campaign almost got derailed because he co-sponsored the infamous immigration reform legislation that would have granted a form of amnesty to many illegals with the late Ted Kennedy. GOP 2012 presidential hopefuls will most likely not make the same mistake, and cases like this will make it harder for candidates to moderate their stances on immigration. The trick will be standing firm on immigration during the primaries without providing soundbites that Democrats could distort in the general election to scare Hispanics and demonize Republicans.
